Media Arts & Technology Academy

Walter Reed Middle School Media Arts Technology Academy (MAT)

The MAT Academy fosters our innate desire to express ourselves creatively while developing an original perspective on the world. Through projects and interdisciplinary units, students are challenged to think critically, collaborate, and communicate using a variety of media, arts, and technology. MAT students develop a profound understanding of how design can impact the functionality and beauty of the world.

MAT Academy offers many supplemental learning opportunities including iMovie filming and video editing in our future media lab; coding with JavaScript, Python, and SCRATCH; real-world stock market simulation games competing against other schools; website development with HTML, CSS, wix.com, and Google Sites; Photoshop projects; Microsoft Office Suite; touch typing; Yearbook Class and Reed Review Student News.

Our day field trips include the Museum of Tolerance, Huntington Gardens, Los Angeles Times, California Science Center, Getty Villa, Autry Museum, and L. A. Film School. Overnight trip destinations include the Santa Monica Mountains (6th grade), San Francisco (7th grade), East Coast (8th grade).

More information regarding the enrollment/permit process can be found on the Smaller Learning Communities webpage.
